What is Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)?
BYOK means you connect your own API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google AI. You pay your provider directly at their rates. No middleman markup, no credit bundles, no subscriptions required.
Is my API key safe?
Yes. Your key is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage. It's only decrypted in memory during generation and never logged or transmitted to third parties.
How much does a generation cost with BYOK?
Typically $0.02–0.15 depending on app complexity and the model you choose. A simple todo app might cost $0.03 with Claude Haiku; a complex SaaS app with Claude Opus might be $0.10–0.15.
What counts as one credit?
Each time you generate or regenerate an app (full generation or chat-mode edit) costs 1 credit. Browsing, editing code manually, or deploying never costs credits. BYOK users don't use credits at all.
What frameworks can Forge generate?
Currently Next.js 15 App Router, Vite + React, and Expo (React Native). Vue and Svelte adapters are on the roadmap.
Can I try Forge completely free?

Can I switch between credits and BYOK?
Yes. If you have both credits and a BYOK key configured, your API key takes priority and credits are not deducted. Remove your key to switch back to credits.
